Ch. 4 • Guy & Ellen (Thompson) Crevier • my 7th cousin 3 times removed

Guy Crevier (my 7th cousin, 3 times removed) was born July 14, 1912 in Saint-François-du-Lac, Quebec and died September 19, 1985 in Chicopee, Hampdon County, Massachusetts. At the age of 22, he married Ellen Thompson (22) at Holy Rosary Church, Holyoke, Massachusetts. They owned and operated the Casa Buona Restaurant in West Springfield for 22 years, retiring in 1975.

Guy popped up on a regular message I receive that tells me of the anniversaries of births, marriages, and deaths of my ancestors. So in July 2015, I did a couple of quick searches to find out more about him. In August 2025, I received an email from his daughter Suzanne correcting a couple of the facts that I had shared on this web page. Since I'm now retired and have much more time to spend on such research (along with better tools), I spent several days reading all about Guy, his wife Ellen, and their family.

Here's where he fits in. The simple path of our Crevier family started in France, many of them in Rouen in the northern part of the country. A number of Creviers immigrated to Quebec in the 1600s, like Christophe Crevier (my 9th great grandfather), who was born in Rouen. At 22 years of age, he married Jeanne Evard (14 years old). Seven years later, they set out for Quebec. Some of the most fascinating people in our ancestry are those who were born and perhaps grew up in one country, but then left it all behind to emigrate, eventually raising their family and passing away in their new home country.

Fast forward a couple hundred years, and the Crevier family is well-entrenched in Canadian society. As such, members of several generations were born, raised, and died in Saint-François-du-Lac, PQ. Then, as the American colonies to their south declared their independence from the British empire and started a new country, the Creviers were no exception to the massive groups of families who chose to re-settle there.

American migration records show that Guy's family emigrated to the U.S. in November 1923. Guy was 11 years old at the time. His parents, Alfred and Eveline, were 54 and 53 respectively. Also in the family were Guy's sister Corine (17) and his brother Garbriel (15). They left their home in Hochelaga (modern day Montreal, Quebec), crossed the border, and registered at St. Albans, Franklin County, Vermont (approximately 65 miles south of their previous home).

Guy then lived most of his life in Massachusetts. I don't know a lot about their descendents, but Guy and Ellen left behind 8 children, who perhaps have made for a pretty large family presence in Massachusetts to this day.
